Pearl Jam – Green Habit: A Comprehensive Live Compilation

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

This post is gonna rock so much that I’ll just give you the relevant information from the .txt and then below that I’ll list a few of my favorite songs from the compilation.

So, from the txt:

———————————-
v.1.1
compiled on January 27, 2005

Size: 4.54 GB
Total Length: 11:55:17
Media required: 1 DVDR and 1 CD-r
for data storage, 10 CDs for audio
burning
———————————-

This project contains 10 CDs worth of live Pearl Jam material. Included in this compilation is a version
of every original song they have played live, as well as most of the covers they have performed live.

The Pearl Jam community has been blessed over their years with a tremendous wealth of live material. It
has come in many forms, from several audience recordings to FM broadcasts to official bootlegs released by
the band itself. This project is an attempt to give you the cream of the crop from these recordings.

The versions chosen were collectively determined by several members of the Red Mosquito forum
(http://www.red-mosquito.de/phpBB2/index.php), a Pearl Jam Web fansite. The process took over half a year
to complete in its entirety. Soundboard or FM recordings took priority unless no such recording existed
for a certain song. This project was originally distributed on Red Mosquito’s sister site, The Sky I
Scrape (http://www.theskyiscrape.com/) , via Bit Torrent.

The order of the songs on the CDs was determined by the order in which the song was first played live.
This is not necessarily the order of which the songs were first released on a studio album. Examples of
this include Brain Of J (released on Yield in 1998, first played live three years before on 11/2/1995)
and Low Light (also released on Yield in 1998, first played live three years after on 10/21/2001). CD
artwork has also been provided for each of the 10 CDs. Each JPG has a symbol and a font that signifies
the era of the songs on the CD.

Tour of OQO HQ

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

Yesterday Cody and I went to the OQO office in SF, where we met and were subsequently given a tour by their CEO, Dennis Moore; he seemed like a great guy, even if his interaction with us felt more like we were reporters than people interested in their products. We also met the founder of OQO, Jory Bell, who seemed very suspicious of everyone in the meeting. Or maybe it just seemed like that since he was obviously suspicious of Cody, who as usual had lots of questions and comments; and of me, who as usual was pretty silent throughout.

Interesting things learned / heard:

  • If you call OQO for tech support, expect a third party who doesn’t give OQO customers very much love.
  • Dennis let slip that they are working with Intel; maybe we’ll see an Intel-based OQO in the future?
  • Apparently their deal with Microsoft requires that any product which comes with a non-MS operating system pre-installed must have a different name than the same product offered with XP or Vista pre-installed.
  • OQO does all software development in-house; this includes bios / boot firmware, drivers, apps, etc. Awesome!
  • The woman apparently in charge of testing OQOs (who gave Cody a free replacement fan for his OQO) was hot.

Anything that includes a free tshirt (and one that doesn’t suck!) maintains at least a neutral rating in my book, and they offered us drinks too, so it was awesome.

Pearl Jam – MTV Unplugged (Uncut)

Friday, October 19th, 2007

Fuck MTV. How can you have Pearl Jam play MTV Unplugged in ’92 and cut Oceans (not to mention Rockin’ in the Free World) from the broadcast? You can’t. But, MTV did.

Thus I am compelled to share the full, unedited version of the show. It’s so unedited that it has the original timecode in every frame (yum.) Here’s the tracklist:

  1. Oceans
  2. State of Love and Trust
  3. Alive
  4. Black
  5. Jeremy
  6. Porch
  7. Even Flow
  8. Rockin’ in the Free World

It’s a great show, and Pearl Jam is only slightly fed up with its fame at this early point in its career! You can download the videos here and the mp3s here.

Tool – “Best Night Ever” – 2001-10-30

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

I got this show off a man called rOn; he left the bootleg under the park bench and I didn’t look back at the Hello Kitty! merch I left in its place. The setlist:

  1. Intro
  2. The Grudge
  3. Stinkfist
  4. Ticks & Leeches
  5. Parabola
  6. Push It
  7. Schism
  8. Break
  9. Disposition
  10. Reflection
  11. Break
  12. Triad
  13. The Patient
  14. Opiate
  15. Lateralus

I wasn’t there but here are reviews from people who were. Songs of note include an extended Stinkfist, and Reflection and Opiate featuring Tricky, that loveable scamp.

Download this awesome show here.
